Carrie Chapman Catt

In 1920, a short time before women were given the right to vote, the League of Women Voters was founded by Carrie Chapman Catt with the express mission of educating women voters.

A group of women in Florida formed the first Florida League in 1939, continuing the national non-partisan, non-sectarian emphasis on advocacy and voter education.

The League of Women Voters Seminole, organized by Sarah McClendon and a group of local women in 1966, and has continued to be a strong non-partisan voice in Central Florida advocating for public education, the environment, and open local government.  Follow this link for a list of our past Presidents.
