FORUMS are held periodically to explore issues in more depth. Events can consist of panels of experts or activists discussing different sides of controversial subjects. Events are free and open to the public.  Forums are frequently offered during the election cycle. As notice of upcoming forums will be posted on our calendar and Facebook page, if you ” Like” our page, you will stay in the loop.

During election years, we sometimes see confusion regarding the League’s nonpartisan status, so we wanted to take the opportunity to explain exactly how the League engages around elections.

We NEVER endorse or support political parties or candidates. In addition to registering hundreds of thousands of new voters, state and local Leagues often host candidate and issue debates and forums to help voters learn about the issues and candidates in their communities. We also put together voters’ guides to help voters learn where candidates stand on the issues they care about.

We DO take positions on key policy issues. Our membership carefully weighs and deliberates a number of stances on key issues before coalescing around a particular position. When these issues come up at the local, state or national level, these positions inform our decisions on what legislation we will support or oppose. This means, state and local Leagues may take a position on various ballot initiatives.
